Blue girl handmade fidget toy for problems like dementia and anxiety.
Dementia including Alzheimer’s disease can cause stress and anxiety. For some, fidgeting with or cuddling a toy can help to sooth and calm. I stock a few different handmade aids that can help. These teddies are great to hold – well made, tough, but also soft. They’re also a good size to stick in a pocket or bag for whenever a little help is needed.
Fidget type aids can also help people struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, withdrawal symptoms and OCD. They’re even good for just getting your hands and fingers moving.
These products have been made for me by the wonderful crochet pattern designer Crochet at Teri’s. She makes these cuddly teddies for babies/young children as well as adults with dementia. Every design is tested and accredited to UKCA standards. The body of the aid has not got stuffing so no worry about anyone pulling stuffing out (the head is stuffed). They have great detail. She makes them whilst developing new crochet patterns so they’re usually one-offs.
These are a good alternative to twiddle muffs.
I think these cuddly aids are great for anyone who will benefit from a little soothing and calming. Although they’re not an aid for a specific hobby, they’re an aid to help people carry out hobbies. As they’re a teddy, no-one is likely to look twice at anyone cuddling one so they’re pretty discrete.
This teddy is a girl with ginger curly hair and wearing a blue onesie. It is about 23cm (9″) high and 21cm (8″) wide.
